Notes:

All homework tasks can be completed in the music department. All of the necessary resources are located in the department where students are free to use them at lunch times and after school (until 5pm). Access to computers, relevant software and instruments means that no student should be in a position where they can’t complete a homework task because of lack of specialised resources at home. Teaching and support staff will be on hand to assist and support students where possible and appropriate.

  • Complete an annotated map outlining the origins of the ‘Blues’, with particular reference to the ‘Slave Triangle’.
  • Write a newspaper ‘feature’ article on Louis Armstrong entitled “From Rags to Riches…”

  • Write a magazine article from the perspective of either a young person who is pro ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ or an older person who sees it as ‘evil’. Argue your case. (Persuasive writing).

  • Analyse the lyrics for ‘Siyahamba’ explaining the writer’s standpoint and how it affects the meaning of the words.

  • Create a group presentation based around a chosen film clip where music is used to either:-
    1. Make us feel relaxed, frightened or excited.
    2. Heighten our understanding of what is happening.
    3. Build up expectations of what might happen next.
    4. Tell us something about how a character in the film is feeling.
